Ambush Therapy

If you’re concerned about a loved one and want them to get help, it can be challenging to convince them to speak to a therapist.  You may be tempted to set up a therapy appointment and be dishonest with them about where they’re going.  You may believe that if you can just get them in the door and in front of a therapist that things will get better.

Parents Beware! Screen Time Dangers

Why should you be concerned?  There are lots of reasons.  Let’s look at a few:

More screen time = less physical activity, less social interaction, less time with family members, less real world problem solving, brain atrophy, increased risk for depression and a reduced ability to learn (among other problems).  For more specifics,

Tips for Anxiety #1

Feeling anxious?  Me, too!  It seems I’m often battling a litany of “What if…?” thoughts.  What if I mess up?  What if I say the wrong thing?  What if that person doesn’t like me?  What if I can’t pay that bill?  What if the car breaks down on a long trip?  What if that official letter in the mail is bad news?

In my practice I help most of my clients deal with fear.

ADHD or not?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder – ADHD or ADD, is a very commonly diagnosed disorder in children.  There is quite a bit of controversy surrounding it, though.  In this era of constant electronic stimulation, crazy schedules, unstructured home time and lots of sugar and fast foods, it can be difficult to figure out if a child has ADHD or something else.
